Do It This Weekend: February 27, 28, March 1

February 26, 2009

Here's some fun activities happening this weekend:

Friday: Get your Crochet on at Sadie Dey's Café! (Formerly known as Tumble & Tea.)

11am-12pm

Learn how to crochet, get help expanding your crochet skills or simply hang out with us!

$15 per person for lessons plus $1.00 off child’s admission to SadieDeys Café

(Saturday at Sadie Dey's catch Songs on Guitar with Ira from 10:30-11am!)

Saturday: Lawrence Hall of Science

Hit any of the ongoing exhibits or catch this special "Flying High" performance from 1-1:50pm.
From the website: Take an imaginary trip into space. Start the excursion by speeding though a whole day in our planetarium "time machine" and then identifying the Big Dipper. Take off with the launch of a spaceship and learn how things move in space, how astronauts eat food in a weightless environment, and how satellites are put into orbit. Don't worry, you’ll return safe and sound!
Recommended for ages 4-7.

Open 10am-5pm
Adults $11/Seniors & Students $9/Child 3-6 $6/Under 3 FREE

Flying High performance tickets are an extra $3 for Adults over 18 and $2.50 for those under 18.

Sunday: Lou Donaldson Jazz Matinee at Yoshi's Jack London Square

Get your groove on to Alto Saxophonist Lou Donaldson, guitarist Randy Johnston, drummer Fukushi Tainaka, and organist Akiko Tsuruga.

This is one of my favorite Sunday activities. Grab some Terriyaki and California Rolls before the show or order heavy appetizers and drinks to your table, and enjoy the non-napping activity!

Yoshi's Oakland
2pm
Tickets: $5/Child, $18/Adult with child, $20 General Admission

Room to Run: Codornices Park

January 07, 2009

Location: Codornices Park , 1201 Euclid Ave, Berkeley (between Eunice and Bay View Place) (Tip: the locals call it CORD-on-ee-sis, instead of CO-DORN-ee-sis) The main sports field at Codornices is a large expanse, much of it far from the street. It's a great place to bring a kick ball or just yourselves and run around. Sometimes you can find lots of dogs with their owners, sports practices, or  Read more...

Weekend fun: last pancake hike of the season

October 08, 2008

I love me some pancakes. And I like hiking and gorgeous vistas. Perhaps, EVEN MORE, I like wandering down memory lane and doing awesome Bay Area things. Well, this is exactly the kind of thing that sporty, carefree San Franciscans do on weekend mornings (that bleed into afternoons) when they don't have kids which is why you should definitely take advantage of it!! The West Point Inn in Marin is  Read more...

Easy escape: backyard camping

August 29, 2008

My family likes to camp. We celebrated Holden's birthday with a camp-out. We joined a bunch of friends on a camping trip when I was pregnant. But somehow, getting all our ducks in a row to reserve the spot, pack the kids, have everyone be healthy, and get some friends to join us is doubly hard with a second kid. Poor baby went and got a fever the night we already had the car packed for our last  Read more...

An all-day adventure at Tilden Park

May 13, 2008

Tilden Park, one of the jewels of the East Bay, has so much to offer that I hardly know where to start. I seriously considered naming my daughter Tilden , and still have it on a list for an imaginary third child that I don't plan to have. My son, a preschooler with an avid interest in bugs, has just learned about this activity called "hiking" and he's way into it. He loves to wear his tiny  Read more...
